I'll admit it... the type of workout I want to talk about today is NOT something you'd have ever seen me do 10 years ago. Not even 5 years ago.
In fact, I used to think it was considered a "girly" workout... certainly not something most men even give much thought to doing.
I still don't believe this type of workout should be the only type of exercise that you ever do, but I have changed my ways and realized the immense benefits of this type of workout, to BOTH men and women.
Personally, I've been mixing this type of workout into my routine once a week throughout most of this year, and it's actually been VERY challenging and has improved my fitness in many ways.
What I'm talking about is Yoga. But NOT just any kind of yoga...stick with me here and I'll explain.
In fact, I learned a few years ago that even top-level ripped pro football players were incorporating yoga into their routines and using it to improve their body beyond what you can do with weights and cardio alone.
Now here's where it gets more interesting...
You probably already know that yoga is good for improving your flexibility and loosening up tight parts of your body. You might also know the benefits that yoga can have for helping your body to manage stress, thereby helping your hormone balance.
But what about yoga for getting chiseled, lean, and getting a flat stomach?
When you perform yoga in what’s called a FLOW—or a string of yoga poses linked together into a continuous workout—your body actually gets into a perfect fat burning zone.
During an informal study performed during her Master’s degree in Exercise Science at Cleveland State University, researcher Kristine Fondran used special equipment to measure fat burning during a vigorous yoga flow.
She burned around 7 calories per minute. And about 6.3 of those were from FAT. So the percentage of fat calories burned was 90%.
That’s pretty much identical to the most frequently chosen exercise on the planet—jogging—but with one BIG difference.
Long, slow and repetitive workouts like jogging or cycling can actually increase a hormone called cortisol and force your body to STORE more fat—especially around the belly—and even make you LOSE muscle!
That’s NOT what you want if you’re interested in sculpting a beautiful, chiseled and lean body.
And you also know that the pounding of jogging can be VERY hard on your joints. That's 2 big strikes against jogging.
With yoga on the other hand, you avoid the problem of increased cortisol while still simultaneously getting the powerful fat blasting effects.
In fact, in 2009, Indian researchers showed that cancer patients following a yoga program had lower levels of cortisol than those who did not.
Plus, treadmills and stationary bikes can get pretty boring. But doing a yoga flow gets you into a groove that feels almost like dancing.
Who would have thought... Getting toned, chiseled, and dropping belly fat from certain types of yoga that are actually fun!
Try adding this into your weekly routine a couple days a week:
==> Scientifically tested FLOW yoga (chisels your body, flattens your stomach, reduces cortisol)
Have fun with this! I've really enjoyed mixing in 1 or even 2 days a week of yoga into my routines and my body is loving the results.
