Are you
plagued with symptoms of digestive distress such as heartburn, gas,
bloating, constipation or a frequently upset stomach? If you answered
yes, then you know how much poor digestion can impact your quality of
life. And guess what…you’re not alone! Recent statistics show that 1 in 3
Americans are suffering along with you. You may think that digestive
distress is just about being uncomfortable, but the fact is, these
problems may be precursors to more serious health issues with much more
significant consequences. Unfortunately, this connection has long been
overlooked by conventional medicine, leaving you vulnerable and
susceptible to additional health problems.

Your Inner Ecosystem: A Delicate Balance
Your digestive tract is filled with “friendly” bacteria that are
essential for optimal health. Stress, poor diet, toxins and
pharmaceutical drugs can kill off these good bacteria in droves. When
this balance is thrown off, you experience sluggish digestion. The food
you consume essentially rots inside your intestines, causing obvious
problems like bloating and excess gas. But less obvious is the fact that
toxins and microbes build up in your body and are then reabsorbed into
your bloodstream. This leads to a domino
effect causing numerous other health problems throughout your
entire body.

The Smartest Way to Get Your Daily Dose
By now you have probably seen commercials on TV for speciality
probiotic yogurts that claim to help regulate your digestive tract. What
you may not be aware of is that these yogurts only contain a very small
amount of probiotics — not nearly enough to provide you with long-term
digestive relief. And if you were looking to get your probiotics from
the regular yogurt on your grocery store's shelves, you’d have to eat
substantial quantities on a daily basis. For example, you would have to
consume at least 10 cups of yogurt each day to get any noticeable
results. Other products that are marketed as being good sources of
probiotics, such as nutrition bars, cereal and drinks, usually contain
insignificant amounts of live probiotics and are not advised. Plus most
of these products are packed with calories and sugar. Finally, many
probiotic products contain only one strain of bacteria, which has been
found to be only partially beneficial since your digestive tract
contains and requires multiple strains.

How to Avoid Wasting Your Money
Probiotic supplements contain living organisms and most brands must be
kept refrigerated from the time of manufacture until you consume them to
ensure that they remain effective. This, however, is impossible to
guarantee. For instance, even if you buy your probiotic from the
refrigerated section of the store, can you be absolutely sure it was
refrigerated in the delivery truck, on the loading dock, in the
warehouse, etc? Most likely, there is at least one time between the
manufacturing facility and the store shelf where the probiotic
supplement is not refrigerated, even if it is cold when you buy it. This
means that most probiotics are literally dead weight by the time they
make it inside your
body. It is for this reason that most experts recommend taking a
probiotic that has been made using an advanced technology called Heat Stabilization Processing (HSP) which makes refrigeration unnecessary. Unfortunately, few probiotics are made with this advanced technique.

Prebiotics…Without Them, Probiotics Just Don’t Work
Something else to look for in any probiotic supplement is the inclusion
of prebiotics, which are plant based compounds that stimulate the
growth and effectiveness of the friendly bacteria. Two of the most
effective prebiotics are inulin, a form of soluble fiber, and
short-chain fructooligosaccharides (FOS) — which act as "food" for the
good bacteria, stimulating their growth, without promoting the growth of
harmful organisms. Due to their expensive nature, prebiotics are often
left out of most probiotic formulas. This is extremely unfortunate since
most experts agree they greatly enhance the overall effectiveness of
probiotic supplements. Finding an affordable probiotic formula that
contains prebiotics is easier than you think. Click here to learn more.
